Statistics for genomics and proteomics
Genetics is a science in great evolution, promising expansion towards discoveries that can help in the comprehension, cure and prevention of many diseases. Maths and statistics play a very important role in this direction because they can provide models and methods to better teach/analyze the data and phenomena in question; and informatics can provide hardware and software tools, indispensable to handle the vast amount of data involved. This research area will develop innovative and efficient methods for the analysis of data from genomics/proteomics and will implement software on modern computing architectures such as clusters of workstations. The research area will also disseminate the results of its research within the scientific community. This research area naturally joined the Bioinformatics interdepartmental project, furthering research topics undertaken since 2005 in the existing research areas/modules of the SV, PM and ITC departments of CNR.
