Modelling and analysis methods for Bioinformatics
The digital modelling of 3D data concerning molecular structures allows the exploratory visualization of complex data sets and has certainly helped achieve important results in bioinformatics. The availability of instruments for high performance computing and the facility with which they can now be accessed, makes it now possible to use advanced visualization and analysis instruments. The research area makes the expertise of IMATI-GE available regarding two different issues: the modelling and analysis of 3D forms and high performance computing. The aim of the research area is the development of data analysis methods relating to 3D molecular structures, that can exploit the computational calculation possibilities provided by high-performance and grid computing, focusing on automatic classification and molecular docking. The research area is organized into two modules, one dedicated to the development of analysis methods and to geometrical, structural and semantic classification, and one dedicated to the definition of computational tools for high-performance computing and efficient methods of bioinformatics analysis.
