The CNR Bioinformatics Project
Recent actions taken by MIUR for the creation of Public-Private laboratories and for the strengthening of Bioinformatics (FIRB, FAR and PON), have determined an important participation of CNR's researchers in the various application areas.
These resources are the foundation for CNR's development, aimed at coordinating the research activities the emerging Bioinformatics sector in a medium to long-term period, in order to be internationally competitive in this area of research.
The Interdepartmental Bioinformatics Project proposes the construction of a network between research groups that belong to different research Departments, in order to develop themes of common research in Bioinformatics areas.
Thanks to the data from projects regarding the sequencing of the genome of different species, the foundations for the study of modern industrial applications derived from proteomics and from genomics have been set. Bioinformatics tools are now indispensable for processing data produced by molecular biology and medicine.
The complexity of the information and the considerable amount of data available, in addition to it's continuous update and, the difficulty of use of most of the analytical programs, makes the daily use of these informatics tools, that have now become indispensable in most hospitals and educational and productive sectors difficult.
The aim of Interdepartmental Bioinformatics Project is to build a pool of expertise to better face the research challenges posed by the continuous furthering of knowledge at both a national and international level in this sector.
This project will support the development of new analysis strategies and the genomic and proteomic data management in the biomedical, biotechnological, agrifood and molecular design fields.
The Interdepartmental Bioinformatics Project will coordinate a series of activities aimed at the development of new and advanced research in Bioinformatics and Biomedical Informatics fields.
