Databases and integration of biomedical data
In the Bioinformatics project innovative hardware and software, tools will be created , both for the management and research countless of bioinformatics and biomedical databases. Database design and development for the management, integration and functional annotation of data from sequencing projects, expression analysis and other biological data will be encouraged.
The standardization of the information produced by the various projects requires a careful analysis of specifications for the management of the great wealth of data produced in the various sequencing and analysis projects, with particular emphasis on the clinical data type with bioinformatics information and biobanks integration. The CNR, with its multiplicity of initiatives, proposes itself as a single entity in the national scene to address and resolve this new type of research.
The adoption of standards based on XML and HL7, and the management of structured meta-data, will facilitate the creation of integrated systems for the use of the data generated from the various projects and at the same time provide access to the main biological databases that are constantly updated. The development and adoption of innovative methods of Data Mining will allow particularly complex research objectives to be achieved. In this area various collaborations for participation in national and international consortia are already in place.
